9:00AM-5:00PM A Satellite of the worldwide Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef Project created by Margaret and Christine Wertheim of the Institute for Figuring in Los Angeles. A coral reef in Indiana? Absolutely! Volunteer crocheters from across Indiana will create all aspects of a real coral reef. This fall the Indiana State Museum, in partnership with the Indianapolis Crochet Guild, presents The Indiana Reef. This unique display is sure to intrigue art enthusiasts, nature lovers and crafters. But how does coral connect to Indiana? Visit The Indiana Reef this fall to find out! The Indiana Reef is just one of many satellite reefs that have been exhibited around the world. Local citizens create the satellite reefs with assistance and guidance from the IFF. If you would like to help create our reef, please contact Carol Frohlich of the Indianapolis Crochet Guild at crochetcoral70@lightbound.com. Volunteers will receive recognition for their participation! Supported by the Arts Council of Indianapolis and the City of Indianapolis and by the Indiana Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Odd Indiana features objects selected from the museum¿¿¿s own collections that are oddities, rarities or commonplace things with intriguing stories. Over 50 unusual items that represent science and culture reveal the museum¿¿¿s collecting activities over the past 100 plus years.

Typically displayed "salon style," paintings selected by a panel of judges are hung in rows from floor to ceiling. As in past years, as many as 150 paintings and sculptures are chosen from 500 to 600 entries. Hoosier Salon is the oldest exhibition in Indiana to maintain consecutive annual exhibitions ¿¿¿ with no missed years! The Salon has persevered through the Great Depression, the Midwestern flood of 1937, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and even devastation by fire. Besides being the oldest, the Hoosier Salon is also the most lucrative exhibition in the state for participating artists.
